enRoute, Air Canada's award-winning in-flight magazine, has for more than a decade published an influential annual ranking of Canada's top 10 new restaurants.

In 2014, for the second year running, I packed my bags (and an obscene supply of Tums) for a cross-country tour of more than 30 new restaurant recommended by enRoute's panel of food-world insiders. I ate dinner at all of them, and ranked my top 10 based on a proprietary and top-secret ranking system that is basically the most confusing Excel spreadsheet you've ever seen.

The best of the lot turned out to be an out-of-the-way spot called Wolf in the Fog, located on the remote west coast of Vancouver Island in a small fishing-and-surfing town of 1,400 residents. The rest of my top 10 included trailblazing new restaurants in Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Halifax, and St. John's. Yes, I have the best job.

The print feature appeared in enRoute's November 2014 issue, and was a finalist for the National Magazine Awards in the category "Service: Lifestyle." Click here to read the full story online.
